Jamshedpur, April 30: Police recovered the body of a man from a burnt car near Gangotri Apartment at Bistupur on Saturday. Liquor bottles and a lighter were found inside the car, police said.

The deceased was identified as M Mukund Rao, 55, a resident of Quarter No H6-73, Outer Circle Road, Bistupur. He was a travel agent, cops said.

Police officials said the said car, parked at a roadside garage in front of Gangotri Apartment, caught fire around 2 am today. A fire brigade was called in by local residents to douse the fire. Bistupur police also reached the spot. After the flames diminished, cops examined the interiors of the dilapidated vehicle and found Rao’s burnt body lying inside. Cops suspect Rao was drinking inside the car and he probably died in an accidental fire caused by the lighter coming in contact with alcohol.

Police sent the body to MGM Medical College for postmortem examination. They informed Rao’s family about the incident.
