Man Dies after Shooting in Mango, Three Detained, Including Police Officer

Jamshedpur: A 30-year-old man from Rajnagar died after sustaining a critical gunshot injury to the neck during a late-night shooting incident in Khadiya Basti under the Olidih police station area of Mango. The deceased has been identified as Devdas Gaud. He was rushed to MGM Medical College and Hospital by his associates after the incident but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Taking the matter seriously, the police have detained three persons for questioning—Devashish Poddar, Neeraj Pradhan, and Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Pankaj Kumar, who is posted at the RIT police station in Seraikela-Kharsawan district. Police have also seized a country-made pistol allegedly used in the shooting, drug-related paraphernalia, and a Thar vehicle from the spot.

According to the police, the group had gathered in Khadiya Basti late on Tuesday night and was allegedly consuming alcohol and other intoxicants. During the gathering, an argument reportedly broke out between Devdas Gaud and Devashish Poddar. The dispute soon escalated, and Devashish allegedly fired a shot from a country-made pistol, which struck Devdas in the neck.

Investigators said that after the shooting, the accused persons took the injured man to MGM Hospital and attempted to leave after admitting him. Their suspicious behaviour drew the attention of the police, who detained all three individuals for questioning.

During interrogation, the accused allegedly gave conflicting statements and attempted to mislead investigators regarding the exact location of the shooting. However, after sustained questioning, they reportedly admitted that the incident had taken place in Khadiya Basti. Based on information provided by Devashish Poddar, police later recovered the country-made pistol believed to have been used in the crime.

Police officials revealed that several important land-related documents were recovered from the seized Thar vehicle. As a result, investigators are also examining a possible land dispute angle behind the murder. Authorities suspect that the killing may not have been solely the result of a drunken altercation and are probing whether an existing land-related rivalry also played a role.

Family members of the deceased reached MGM Hospital on Wednesday morning after being informed about the incident. Devdas Gaud was reportedly employed with a private company in Adityapur. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and police have launched a detailed investigation. Officials said the exact sequence of events and motive behind the murder will become clearer after the post-mortem report and further interrogation of the accused.
