Jamshedpur, Sep 20: Police here on Tuesday arrested a teacher, identified as Vijay Mandal, for allegedly raping a 10 year-old girl at Old Purulia Road under Mango PS.
Cops said the accused committed the heinous crime late yesterday night in the minor�s house. The accused also allegedly exploited the minor�s mother physically for four years by making false promise to marry her, cops said.
Irked over the incident, local residents caught hold of the accused and severely beat him up before handing him over to the police.
Local residents had taken Mandal as hostage for several hours till the arrival of police.
Assistant Sub Inspector of Mango PS Baleshwar Prasad said police had sent the mother-daughter duo to the government hospital for medical examination.
He said an FIR had been registered against the accused in this connection.
