Jamshedpur: In a crackdown on illegal drug and liquor trade, Jamshedpur police arrested Moni Borkar alias Gautam Borkar in the Khuntadih area on Saturday. According to CT SP Kumar Shivashish, the arrest followed a raid based on secret information, where 136 bottles of illegal cough syrup were seized from Borkar’s possession. The syrup, containing high quantities of cotin phosphorus, is often abused by criminal elements for intoxication.
Borkar, previously known for selling illegal liquor, had been operating in the illegal cough syrup trade for the past month. Police also recovered 23 liters of country liquor from his possession, with an estimated value of fifty thousand rupees. “The arrest and seizure are part of our efforts to curb drug addiction in the area,” said SP Shivashish.
The authorities are continuing their investigation, and another individual believed to be involved in the illegal trade is expected to be arrested soon.
