Seraikela: In a chilling incident, 19-year-old Rohit Murmu, a resident of Charkpathar in Sini, has been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of his 24-year-old girlfriend, Sanjana Hansda, of Mirudih village. The young woman’s lifeless body was discovered near the Kharkai river, located near Nand Nagar Radha Swami Satsang, situated between Saraikela and Rajnagar road.
According to Superintendent of Police Mukesh Kumar Lunayat, the crime was committed on Wednesday evening after Rohit Murmu lured Sanjana from her home with a false promise of marriage. Once they arrived in Saraikela, Rohit Murmu attempted to force himself on Sanjana, but she refused. An argument broke out, and in a fit of rage, Murmu killed Sanjana by striking her with a cement pole.

The murder case remained unsolved for several days as the victim’s identity was not immediately known. The body, which was initially unidentifiable, left the police struggling to make headway. It wasn’t until Monday, when Sanjana’s relatives identified her body, that the investigation gained momentum. Following this, police analyzed Sanjana’s mobile call details, which led them to the accused.
Rohit Murmu was arrested at his residence, where police recovered several crucial pieces of evidence, including the black motorcycle used in the crime, Sanjana’s mobile phone, her slippers, and the cement pillar used in the murder.
The arrested accused confessed to the crime during interrogation. A team led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sameer Kumar Sawaiya and other officers, including Sub-Inspector Shambhu Prasad Gupta and Sub-Inspector Satish Varnwal, carried out the raid that led to Murmu’s arrest.
The case has raised concerns about the dangers of unrequited love and the tragic consequences that can follow when such emotions spiral out of control. Authorities continue to gather evidence as they pursue further investigations.
Seraikela: In the wake of the tragic murder of young girl Sanjana Hansda, villagers and her family members staged a protest in front of the district collectorate gate, demanding justice. The demonstration was led by BJP leader Ramesh Hansda, who expressed strong concerns over the ongoing investigation and the police’s handling of the case.
During the protest, Ramesh Hansda raised issues with the police’s focus on a particular suspect, highlighting discrepancies between the crime scene evidence and the police’s accusations. “The evidence from the crime scene, including the cement pillar used in the crime, suggests the involvement of several others. A thorough investigation is required to uncover the truth,” Hansda stated.
The protesters, chanting slogans, emphasized that justice must be served for Sanjana. They also made it clear that they would not allow the body to be moved from the post-mortem house until all the accused in the case were apprehended.
BJP leader Ramesh Hansda further demanded that the investigation be taken over by a DSP-level officer to ensure a fair and detailed probe. Several villagers and family members, including Chinmay Mahato, Vishu Mahato, Michael Mahato, Rajesh Sardar, and Vimal Mahato, participated in the demonstration.
