Jamshedpur, Nov 17: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has uncovered a major human trafficking operation at Tatanagar Railway Station under Chakradharpur Railway Division.
Acting on a confidential tip-off and under the supervision of Senior Commandant P. Shankar Kutty, the RPF’s flying squad intercepted two traffickers attempting to take 12 minor girls and one minor boy out of the state for forced labour.
The arrested traffickers have been identified as Sunil Chatomba and Jambira Chatomba, both residents of the Hat Gamharia police station area.
The racket came to light when RPF personnel noticed suspicious movement at the station and questioned the duo, leading to the rescue of all 13 minors.
According to the initial inquiry, the traffickers used to lure children by promising better job opportunities outside the state.
The rescued minors, all belonging to West Singhbhum and nearby areas, have been taken into safe custody and are undergoing counselling. The children revealed that they were being taken away for labour work.
Both arrested traffickers have been handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Tatanagar for further legal action.
The entire operation was carried out under the RPF’s Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU), which has been conducting continuous drives to combat trafficking across the division.
The swift response by the RPF has significantly disrupted a major human trafficking network in the region.
