Major accident averted on NH-33 near Jamshedpur

35 passengers escape unhurt as bus crashes into trailer

Jamshedpur, Nov 7: A major road accident was narrowly averted on Friday morning on NH-33 near Mukhiadanga under MGM police station area, when a speeding passenger bus travelling from Kolkata to Ranchi collided with a trailer. The impact was so intense that the sound of the crash woke nearby residents, who rushed to the spot. Fortunately, all 35 passengers on board escaped with minor injuries.

According to reports, the accident occurred around 3:30 a.m. near Mithila Motors on the highway, where a trailer was crossing through a cut. The high-speed bus rammed into the left side of the trailer, causing extensive damage to its front portion and locking the main exit gate. Most passengers were asleep when the collision occurred and panic ensued as they struggled to get out.

Police from MGM station reached the site promptly and managed to evacuate the passengers safely through the driver’s door. Local residents also assisted in the rescue efforts. Two passengers sustained minor injuries and were treated at a nearby nursing home before being discharged.

The collision caused a heavy traffic jam on NH-33, which lasted for about two and a half hours. Police used a crane to move the damaged bus to the roadside and traffic was restored around 6 a.m. Authorities said the trailer driver fled the scene after the incident and efforts are underway to trace him. The bus has been seized for further investigation, while the remaining passengers were sent to Ranchi on another vehicle.
