Jamshedpur, June 29: The officials of the Maharashtra Airport Development Company Limited (MADC) have said that the Shirdi Airport is 100% operational ready and an inspection last week by officials of Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) and Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will pave the way for the facility to be operational.

“The airport is 100% ready and construction work has been completed. All aspects related to security, comfort and safety of passengers have been taken into consideration. The much awaited inspection by BCAS and DGCA is set to take place this week.

We are sure that everything will go well as expected,” an official said. Located at Kakri village, some 15 km from Shirdi town, the airport is fully designed and managed by MADC. “We are aiming to start flight operations from the second week of July. However, a decision in this regard will be taken by the Chief Minister.

A green signal from both DGCA and BCAS is mandatory for the airport to start functioning. While BCAS will look at security, safety and technical aspects of the airport, DGCA will provide the licence, which will lead to the start of flight operation.

It has been an important project for us and we are looking forward to the inspection. The airport, once functional, is sure to be busy considering the fact that the city sees lakhs of people coming for Sai Baba darshan,” the official pointed out.
