Lust for property led to murder of grandmother, grandson in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, Dec 19: Lust for landed property had led to the killing of the grandmother and her grandson whose decomposed body was recovered from a closed house near Jemco Bus Stand under Telco thana on Thursday evening.

The grandmother Savitri Devi’s body was found on the cot while grandson Lebra body was wrapped in a mattress and lying on the floor and neighbours informed police after a putrefying smell emanated from the closed house.

On the directive of East Singhbhum deputy commissioner, Suraj Kumar, post-mortem was conducted on the bodies by a medical board in the presence of a magistrate under video photography on Saturday.

On the complaint of Chotan Machua, a murder case has been lodged in Telco thana against Chaiti Machua (daughter of the deceased grandmother), his son Sanjay Machua (brother of the grandson) and Jogendra Singh who had purchased their house making it clear that the murder was an outcome of dispute over landed property.

“The manner in which they were killed would be clear only after the arrest of the culprits,” the police said.

The complainant Chotan Machua stays in Doranda,  Ranchi and has said that his wife and son are missing since last few days and suspected that they were involved in the murder along with Jogendra Singh who had purchased the house.

“My wife had entered into an agreement with Jogendra Singh for selling the house for an amount of Rs 2 lakh in October this year and after which Jogendra Singh had paid Rs 10,000 cash and a cheque of Rs 90,000 and promised to give the remaining amount after vacating the house. My wife and my son were exerting pressure on Savitri Devi and the second son to vacate the house. But they were not willing to vacate it,” said Chotan Machua.

Meanwhile, neighbours claimed that both grandmother and her grandson were last seen on Sunday.
