Jamshedpur : Amidst political slugfest plaguing various parties of the State, the Singhbhum Lok Sabha seat is set to witness an interesting fight. After Jamshedpur, Singhbhum is the second parliamentary constituency in Kolhan Division.
Since sitting MP Madhu Koda, is facing graft charges, and chances that he might field his MLA wife Geeta Koda to contest the forthcoming general election in his place from Singhbhum (reserved) constituency, the fight may get fierce.
Moreover, the BJP MLA of Majhgaon Barkunwar Gagrai is also keen to contest Lok Sabha election from Singhbhum constituency. Gagrai is likely to contest the polls on an AJSU ticket, though no announcement has been made in this regard by the party as yet. Gagrai had been eyeing this seat for a long time, sources said.
“I am working on the sentiments of my party workers and my supporters, who want me to contest the elections,” said Gagrai. Meanwhile, Laxman Gilua is hopeful to repeat the magic of 1999 elections in which he defeated his arch rival and Congress leader by 82,311 votes.
It may be mentioned that former Congress MP from Singbhum Bagun Sumbrai, was winning the seat since 1977 continued the winning streak till 1989. He won again in 2004. Sumbrai, however, lost to former Chief Minister Madhu Koda and stood third in the elections with 95,433 votes only in Lok Sabha 2009. This time the Congress Party has fielded Chiktrasen Sinku who contested from BJP in 1998 and lost to Congress�s Vijay Singh Soy.
According to political analysts of the area, the fight would be interesting since all the three candidates are experienced in their own way.
