The East Singhbhum police made a surprise inspection of Old Purulia Road in Mango and found many shops dealing in non-essential goods open. Some of the shopkeepers downed their shutters on seeing the police while others were ordered to shut their shops. At the same time, the police caught some people without masks or helmets and made out fine challans. At this, the people protested on the plea that during these hard times they hardly had ample money to meet food and other essential requirements and thus no money to pay fines. A crowd gathered at the scene until police officials managed to pacify frayed tempers and bring the situation under control. SSP Dr M Tamil Vanan later toured the Mango area with a police convoy to take stock of the situation.
