Jamshedpur. Residents of local slums near Marine Drive Ghoda Chowk under Kadma police station blocked the road again on Friday. The people of the settlement gathered around 9 in the morning and started protesting by blocking the road. Bricks and stones were scattered on the road. Traffic at Marine Drive came to standstill. The tire burn kept Marine Drive jammed for almost two hours. They were demanding compensation for an accident victim.

The agitators said that on Thursday, the police station in-charge had assured to get better treatment for the child, Anand Devgam (10), who was injured by a car in a mishap on Marine Drive. After assurance, the locals made Marine Drive jam-free on Thursday. The child’s parents are poor. They were calling the police station for the money for the treatment. The officer failed to respond.

DASP Kamal Kishor, station in-charge Manoj Kumar Thakur reached the spot and pacified the agitators and made the road jam free. The family members of the child are demanding compensation of Rs 5 lakh from the administration.

The family alleged that the accident victim is not getting proper treatment at TMH. Because of this they will go to Vellore with the child. The locals started creating a ruckus on the demand to call the Scorpio driver also on the spot. On the assurance of proper compensation from the police, the people of the settlement calmed down and made Marine Drive jam-free.

It may be recalled that a Scorpio had hit a child while crossing Marine Drive on Thursday morning. The child was seriously injured in the mishap. After the incident, the residents of the township had blocked Marine Drive for about 3 hours demanding action on the Scorpio driver and better treatment for the child. People alleged that a convoy of about 10 vehicles was passing through Marine Drive.
