Jamshedpur: A review meeting on livelihood promotion was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi, who emphasized that concrete initiatives must be taken to make people self-reliant by utilizing local skills and resources. He warned that efforts of departments should be visible on the ground, and no fake reporting will be tolerated.
Reviewing the progress of 16 livelihood projects across East Singhbhum, the Deputy Commissioner expressed concern over the slow pace of implementation and directed officials to intensify field-level work. He said strict action would be taken against those indulging in false reporting. Deputy Development Commissioner Nagendra Paswan and other senior officials were present.
During the discussion on honey production by tribal groups in Bodam block, the Deputy Commissioner set a turnover target of Rs 1 crore within a year and instructed to focus on quality improvement through a four-day training program beginning August 22. He also directed workshops for artisans and users to improve the quality of musical instrument manufacturing in Andharjhor village.
In Dumria’s Lakhaidih village, he suggested that the proposed oil crushing machine be run on a community model to benefit more villagers. For the bamboo cluster in Baharagora’s Manushmudia, he sought a detailed proposal within 10 days, while cashew processing initiatives were advised to be scaled up by involving local farmers and women.
Highlighting the poultry business in Patamda and Potka, he instructed the District Animal Husbandry Officer to ensure a 20 percent rise in women’s monthly income from poultry by the year’s end. He said making poultry sustainable and profitable would remain a priority. Similarly, he asked for proper market linkage and branding of mushroom production in Jamshedpur Sadar, where 215 producers have been registered under an FPO.
The meeting also discussed silk projects in Musabani, wood carving in Ghatsila, and traditional Dokra art and Patkar painting. The Deputy Commissioner stressed framing a concrete plan to connect these products with national and international markets to create new income opportunities. He added that local resources, skills, and community participation are the real strengths of livelihood promotion.
Officials from Cooperatives, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Industries Department, JSLPS, LDM and other concerned departments attended the meeting.
