Ranchi: Retail liquor will be sold in Jharkhand from September 1 under the new excise policy. For this, lottery was held for allotment of shops in all the districts of the state on Friday. Under the new product policy, retail liquor business will now be done through private hands.
It is said that the department has received revenue of about Rs 40 crore from the lottery process. According to the information, a total of 1343 shops will be operated in the state under the new product policy. This includes 1184 composite and 159 desi liquor shops. Both desi and foreign liquor will be sold in composite shops. Whereas, only desi liquor will be available in desi shops. In the capital Ranchi, there are 1343 shops in Ranchi.
There are more than 150 liquor shops. Apart from Jharkhand, liquor traders from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh also participated in the lottery process of liquor shops.
It was told that under the new product policy, VAT on liquor has been reduced. At the same time, excise duty and transport duty have been increased. In such a situation, some popular brands of liquor can become expensive by 10 to 20 rupees. At the same time, liquor manufactured abroad will be cheaper than before.
