Jamshedpur: Senior citizens and differently abled passengers at Adityapur railway station will soon be relieved from the hassle of climbing stairs or crossing railway tracks to move between platforms. The Chakradharpur Division of Indian Railways has initiated plans to install lifts and escalators across all platforms to enhance accessibility and convenience for passengers.
A survey has already been conducted from platform number one to five. As per the plan, platform one will be equipped with both an escalator and a lift, while platforms two to five will have lift facilities. The initiative aligns with the broader plan to develop Adityapur station as a terminal for Tatanagar station. Once operational, the station is expected to handle over 15,000 passengers daily, facilitating the operation of several trains on the Chakradharpur, Chandil and Chaibasa routes.
Accessibility issues remain a concern at Tatanagar station, where there are no ramps or lifts on all platforms. As a result, many disabled passengers, senior citizens and patients are forced to cross railway tracks using wheelchairs, posing a serious safety risk. In response, the railway authorities are prioritizing lift installations at Adityapur station before increasing its operational capacity.
Additionally, efforts are underway to strengthen security measures at Adityapur station. The installation of CCTV cameras, gate frame metal detectors and vehicle and luggage scanners has been initiated to ensure passenger safety. Meanwhile, infrastructure enhancements, including the waiting hall, ticket counter, water booths, stalls and toilets, have been completed. The construction of a foot overbridge, parking area and approach roads is in its final stages.
The General Manager of South East Railway regularly reviews the progress of Adityapur station during inspections and receives updates from the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM). With the installation of lifts and escalators, passengers, especially senior citizens and the differently abled, will soon experience a much-improved travel experience at Adityapur station.
