Jamshedpur, July 2: The LIC Divisional Chess Tournament 2025 (Men’s and Women’s categories) began today at the LIE Sports Club, Bistupur, Jamshedpur. The two-day event is being held from July 2 to 3.
The tournament was inaugurated in the presence of Chief Guest A.B. Rath (Sr. Divisional Manager), and Guests of Honour K. Meenakshi (Manager, Personnel), G. Ravi Shankar (Honorary Secretary, LIE Sports Club), and D.P. Balmiki (Treasurer, LIE Sports Club). International Arbiter Chandan Kumar Prasad is officiating as Chief Arbiter. G. Ravi Shankar, Hon. Secretary, LIE Sports Club was present on the occasion.
A total of eight players are participating—six in the men’s category and two in the women’s category. The matches follow a time control of 30 minutes with a 30-second increment per move.
After two rounds, Himangshu Bikash Chakraborty and Kartik Chandra Das are leading the men’s section with two points each. In the women’s best-of-three format, Asha Kumari won both matches against Rashmi Samal and is leading the series.
