Jamshedpur, Aug. 26: The Jamshedpur Branch of The All India Anglo-Indian Association organised the 9th Frank Anthony Memorial Elocution Contest, on 25th August at Gulmohur School (Primary Auditorium), Telco. A total of 16 Schools participated in the contest this year.
Glen Galstaun, Anglo-Indian MLA, Government of Jharkhand, graced the occasion as chief guest.
Glen Galstaun was delighted to hear the students and in his address he appreciated the topics chosen, their knowledge on various topics and some good values that they held dear to their hearts.
He applauded those who were the best and encouraged those who just missed out by a few marks. He advised the students to press on even if they are disappointed. He emphasized on having many more competitions for greater exposure.
The contest was held in two groups were students of Little Flower School (LFS) displayed impeccable oratory skills and were declared the winners in both the groups.
In Group I- Sanjali Bhahma of Little Flower School (LFS) won the first prize. She was given the topic �i killed her�.
Muskan of Narbheram Hansraj English School spoke on the topic �What if this darkness is not the darkness of the tomb but the darkness of the womb�
3rd rank was bagged by Divya Vardayini of Carmel Junior College with her topic �Antonio’s speech at Julius Caesar’s funeral�
In Group II- Shreya Chatterjee of Little Flower School with her topic on �tears of abortion� won the first prize followed by Shivangi Sharma of Loyola School with the topic �the final speech by Charlie Chaplin�.
Disha Banerjee of Sacred Heart Convent School with her topic on �a speech by Severn Suzuki on environmental concerns at the UN� was tied second while Priyanshu Priya of Kerala Samajam Model School with her topic �Speech delivered by Michelle Obama�bagged the third spot.
On behalf of the Judges Dr. Anita Gupta, shared her views with the students weaving a story about their performances and the topics they chose. She spoke to the students on how to become good orators and pointed areas of important areas of improvement with valuable suggestions highlighting requirements to become a good elocutionist (presentation, pronunciation, pitch & pause)
Galstaun thanked Gulmohur School and their Principal, Sunita Sinha, for helping the association to host the competition this year.
Galstaun was also proud of the work done by the Jamshedpur Branch of The All India Anglo-Indian Association.
The DEO, Jamshedpur, Raj Pratap Singh was the Guest of Honour. The judges were Mrs. Violet Moss, former teacher of Little Flower School, Jamshedpur; Dr. Anita Gupta, Professor of English and former Principal, Jamshedpur Women�s College and Chandra Gyan Tirkey, Professor of Loyola B.ed College.
This Annual Contest is popular among schools and students eagerly participated in this event. This Contest brings out the best in students as they learn to compete in a livelier and fair atmosphere.
There was a very high standard of knowledge in the topics chosen for the elocution. Each piece of Prose, each speech and Poem was interesting and the competition was very close�
On this occasion the All India Anglo-Indian Association-Jamshedpur Branch, also felicitated the top scorers of the ICSE and ISC Examinations 2017.
In ICSE Pratiksha Mishra of Loyola School with 98.60% was the topper. In ISC Madhav Kauntia of Carmel Junior College with 98 % marks.
