Leopards, zebras, crocodiles to be brought in at Tata Zoo Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, July 27: Tata Steel Zoological Park (Tata Zoo) will soon receive additional animals and reptiles between August and October as part of an exchange program. The zoo will receive four leopards from Nagpur, a crocodile from Chennai and a zebra from Jamnagar in exchange for animals to be sent out to these places.  Preparations are also underway to bring in Anaconda snakes. The snakes’ enclosure is being expanded to accommodate additional reptiles. In addition, the Central Zoo Authority has also given its nod to Tata Steel Zoological Park to bring in four more crocodiles.

The Mandrills are being exchanged for the animals that are being brought in.  The Central Zoo Authority has approved these additions. Zoo Deputy Director Naim Akhtar confirmed that the new animals were being brought in keeping with the Guideline Exchange Programme. According to the programme, the animal exchange procedure will be executed between August and October.

New enclosures are coming up and a dedicated veterinary hospital has been constructed within the zoo campus and is expected to be inaugurated in August.  The process of enclosure construction will be completed by the next fiscal. A new butterfly park is also coming up.
