Jamshedpur: Following its presence in the Kadma Biodiversity Park, a leopard has been reported in Sonari, sparking fear among locals. Residents alerted the Forest Department and administration after discovering evidence of the leopard’s visit to the northern layout of Sonari, where it had apparently killed and partially consumed a pig overnight.

Concerned citizens reported the discovery of a pig’s half-eaten carcass, with one half severed. The Forest Department promptly dispatched a team to investigate the incident and collect samples from the remaining portion of the pig for analysis.

The news of the leopard’s presence in Sonari has intensified apprehension among residents, especially after its recent sighting near the biodiversity center in Kadma. While the Forest Department is yet to confirm if it is indeed a leopard, residents assert that the animal in question was, indeed, a leopard.

Currently, efforts are underway by the Forest Department and police to review nearby CCTV footage in hopes of identifying the animal and corroborating eyewitness accounts. Surveillance cameras surrounding the area where the pig was discovered are being scrutinized to ascertain the true nature of events and gather further evidence.

  1. The animal whether it is a Leopard or not can be ascertained by analysing the pugmark left during its movement.I think the forest department is capable of this. The left out of the kill can be used as a bait to capture the animal at the earliest.

  2. It is really sad that we humans have destroyed the eco system to this extent that other animals have lost their homes. We are so ferociously tracking the poor animal without giving a thought on its plight.

  4. Main question is how did leopard came to jamshedpur, when thre very low or nil chances of finding one in nearby forest. Is it the pray of animal trafficking? Anyways it is very difficult to catch leopard as they are the ghost of the jungle very shy beings. Moreover our police or forest official not that expired in handling such situations . This 1st time a wild animal has come this close to the town. Last year a hyna was spotted in Telco and was finally killed by locals. Hope the leopard doesn’t meets the same fate.
