Gamharia: The identity of any society is its language and culture. But today people are fast forgetting their culture which is obliterating their identity altogether. There is an urgent need to save our identity. This was observed today by MLA Sadhu Charan Mahato of Ichagarh during Karma festival organized at Kandra. The celebration was organized under the aegis of Kurmi Seva Sangh.
Mahato said there was need for the Kurmis to remain united and fight for their existence and social identity. He said the culture and language of the Kurmis were their strength wherever they went.
Also present on the occasion as the special guest, Harmohan Mahato said the culture received from our forefathers as a legacy should be conserved at all cost. He asked the people to do their best for their language and culture.
A grand cultural programme was organized to mark the occasion. Teams of artists led by Jai Prakash Mahato and Sunita Rani presented Jhoomar music and dance which captivated the visitors. Earlier, a puja was organized to pay obeisance to the Karma tree.
Among those present at the festival included Savitri Mahato, Khando Devi, Amrita Tudu, Ram Hansda, Ajit Singh, Harmohan Mahato, Santosh Mahato, Ram Jeevan Mahato, Vijay Mahato and Suren Sardar.
