Jamshedpur, Jan 25: In a ground breaking development, Tata Motors’ Jamshedpur plant has inked an agreement, securing the regularisation of 900 Bi-Six employees each year. The accord, signed in the presence of the Labor Commissioner of Jharkhand, follows extensive tripartite discussions between Tata Motors Vice President Vishal Badshah, Tata Motors Workers Union President Gurmeet Singh Tote, and Union General Secretary RK Singh.

Under the terms of the agreement, 225 Bi-Six workers will transition to permanent jobs in the Company every three months, totalling 900 employees annually. This marks a significant increase from the previous commitment to regularize approximately 600 employees per year. Initially, the management had proposed transferring all permanent employees to another plant, a proposal contested by the Tata Motors Workers Union. After prolonged negotiations, the union successfully pressed for the stipulation that all permanent employees will remain at the Jamshedpur plant.

The Tata Motors Workers Union’s demand for the regularisation of 900 temporary employees each year was met after extensive discussions, resulting in a notable victory for the union. The breakthrough agreement, signed just before Republic Day, sets the stage for the regularization of 2,700 temporary employees.

Speaking on the occasion, Vishal Badshah, Vice President, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicle Operations said, “I congratulate both the Management and the Union teams for reaching the historic agreement on time and in an amicable manner. I also thank the Government of Jharkhand for the support extended. This settlement will bring happiness and goodwill among the employees and their family members. I wish Jamshedpur Plant all the success and urge the team to continue to strengthen the mutual cooperation and trust that have been built over the years.”

On this occasion, Ravindra Kulkarni, Plant Head, Jamshedpur, Tata Motors Ltd. said, “With this historic announcement, I am sure that both the union and the workers are very happy, will continue to work in harmony, which will strengthen the bond further”.

Notably, Tata Motors had initially proposed to regularise 2,700 Bi-Six workers with an annual commitment of 600 conversions. The current workforce at Tata Motors stands at around 5,600 permanent employees, a number significantly higher than the productivity benchmarks of other plants. Despite this, the agreement provides for the stabilization of about 850 employees each year, contributing to a total workforce of 8,300 employees.
