Jamshedpur, June 12: MP Bidyut Varan Mahto on Monday said the ground work for setting up the proposed 1000-MW nuclear power plant in East Singhbhum has received much fillip as land required for the project has been identified in Bahragora block of East Singhbhum.

The exact place where the project is expected to come up is Bhakhar located on the banks of Subararekha river. The area is spread across 160 acres.

Addressing a press meet here, Mahto said the Centre had announced a nuclear plant in East Singhbhum and in order to ensure that the project is implemented and the people reap its benefits, a suitable plot has been identified. He said as per the guidelines of Atomic Minerals Division, the land has easy accessibility to water and there is no human habitat nearby, which is crucial for the project.

“The Union government wanted to know if the State could arrange the required land for the plant and we have identified the land. I have also spoken to Chief Minister Raghubar Das over the land availability and we are confident that the ground work will start soon,” said Mahto.

Mahto said the proposal for the availability of the land is being sent to the department concerned. He went on to add that if implemented the project will generate huge job opportunities for the local people.

Talking about his other project, the road over-bridge at Jugsalai railway crossing, the MP said the formalities have been completed and the project is expected to kick start by August end.

The road over bridge is a long pending demand of the people residing at Jugsalai. Sources informed that out of Rs 21.54 crores meant for the project, Rs 9.77 crores will be spent by the railway, where as the remaining Rs 11.77 crores will be borne by the state government. The road over bridge would ensure smooth traffic and avoid decongestion as the commuters face it now while crossing the level crossing.

Sharing his future plans for his parliamentary area, the BJP MP said that in view of a large number of traders visiting Jaipur, he has demanded higher frequency of the Shalimar-Jaipur AC Special train, which goes via Tatanagar railway station. The train introduced in the first week of April to clear summer rush will run till June 28, as per railway schedule.

“The train will immensely help those visiting Jaipur as a tourist or for business purpose. Several traders of Jamshedpur and other places of Kolhan go to Jaipur for business purpose,” he added.
