Jamshedpur: A wave of devotion and religious fervour swept through New Cable Town in Golmuri on Thursday as the Shri Lakshmi Narayan Mahayagya Committee took out a grand Kalash Yatra. The procession, featuring brass bands, devotional music, horses, and a decorated chariot, marked the formal beginning of the nine-day Mahayagya.
Ocean of Devotees: 1,100 Women Carry Sacred Pitchers

The journey began at 9:00 AM from the Lakshmi Narayan Temple (Birla Temple) in Old Cable Town. Over 1,100 women, dressed in traditional attire, participated in the procession carrying sacred pitchers (Kalash) and coconuts on their heads. The atmosphere remained electric with the sounds of religious chants and devotional songs played on DJ systems.
To ensure the purity of the path, a water tanker led the procession, sprinkling clean water along the entire route. Devotees—including children and youth—danced their way to the New Cable Town grounds, where the sacrificial altar (Yagya Shala) is situated.
Dignitaries and Rituals
The Kalash Yatra saw participation from prominent spiritual and political figures, including:
- Acharya Lal Mohan Shastri.
- Saryu Roy (MLA, Jamshedpur West).
- Chief Coordinator Anil Thakur, and social worker Shivshankar Singh.
- BJP leader Rambabu Tiwari and other local representatives.
Before the procession, priests filled the pitchers with holy water from the Ganges (Sultanganj) at the Birla Temple following Vedic rituals. Upon reaching the venue, the pitchers were established around the Panch Kundiya Yagya Shala, followed by a ceremonial circumambulation (Parikrama) by the devotees.
Schedule of the Mahayagya
A 21-member team of scholars from Varanasi, led by Pandit Lal Mohan Shastri, completed the construction of the altar (Bedi). The upcoming schedule includes:
- Friday: Panchang Pujan, Mandap Pravesh, and the invocation of the Fire God through Arani Manthan.
- Daily Rituals: Morning prayers from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and Havan (sacrificial fire) from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
- Evening Sessions: From 3:00 PM to 8:30 PM, renowned narrator Ramcharitra Das Ji Maharaj will deliver musical sermons and present tableaus (Jhankis) based on ideal life values.
Grand Arrangements and Security
The venue has been transformed into a divine space with 108 idols of deities installed near the Yagya Shala. The committee has ensured robust infrastructure, including a sturdy pandal, extensive electrical lighting, and a dedicated parking area. For security, the entire premises is under CCTV surveillance.
Key contributors to the successful organization of the Yatra included Bipin Jha, Bittu Tiwari, Rajesh Singh, Shailesh Pandey, Hareram Yadav, and several other committee members who worked tirelessly to manage the massive influx of devotees.
