Absconding Extortion Accused Lakhan Gop Arrested by Kapali Police in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: In a significant breakthrough, the Kapali Outpost Police arrested an absconding accused in connection with an extortion and assault case and sent him to judicial custody.

The accused, identified as Lakhan Gop alias Bawla (28), had been on the run following his alleged involvement in a violent extortion attempt in the Kapali area, adjoining Mango. According to police officials, the incident dates back to December 29, 2025, when Jagbandhu Singh alias Kaltu Singh (50), a resident of Kapali Dobo, was allegedly assaulted over a demand for Rs 10 lakh in extortion money. The victim sustained serious injuries in the attack.

Officer-in-Charge Dhiranjan Kumar stated that Lakhan Gop has a criminal history and has previously been jailed in multiple cases, including those registered under the Arms Act. Following the incident, he had fled the area and was reportedly hiding in Puri.

Police recently received intelligence inputs that the accused was likely to visit his in-laws’ residence in Jhimdi village under the Nimdih police station limits of Seraikela-Kharsawan district. Subsequently, he moved to his residence in Sonari, Jamshedpur, where a police team, already lying in wait, apprehended him.

The arrest was carried out by a team led by Sub-Inspectors Hasnain Ansari and Ranjit Kumar Singh, along with armed personnel. After his arrest, the accused was produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.

Police officials reaffirmed their commitment to cracking down on organized crime and ensuring public safety in the region.
