Jamshedpur, Aug 2: The SC/ST residential school and its 60 boarders have been groping in the dark for the past three days due to a burnt out transformer. The residential school is situated in Sonahatu Panchayat under Chakulia Block. The moment Baharagora legislator Kunal Sarangi learnt on social media of the plight of the 60 children he rushed there to take first hand stock of the pathetic condition of the residential school hostellers.
Kunal gathered that the transformer supplying power in the area had been burnt out and that in spite of being informed the department had not taken any step to ameliorate the problem. He was also informed that the battery of the solar power unit needed repair.
The students informed the legislator that there were five rooms in the school but only three were in use as the other two were in dilapidated condition. They complained that there were no gates at two points in the building as a result of which stray cattle entered the school premises.
During his inspection Kunal Sarangi also found that there was a paucity of text books and computers had not been installed. The Baharagora legislator called up the executive engineer of the Electricity Department and instructed him to have the transformer immediately changed. He also rang up the company official that had installed the solar unit in the school and directed him to get the battery either replaced or repaired.
The legislator also rang up the District Welfare Officer and told him to inspect the school and provide adequate number of books to the students, have the building repaired and ensure installation of computers. The villagers too complained that the school boarders were not being provided nutritious food. Kunal directed the principal to ensure that the discrepancies were cleared at the earliest.
