KU plans big for second convocation this month

Jamshedpur, Feb 1: Kolhan University (KU) is planning big for the second convocation scheduled for this month.

A university official said that the convocation was earlier scheduled for December 2015, but was postponed due to unforeseen reasons.

Established in 2009, KU hosted its first convocation in the year 2013. According to reports, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is likely to attend the convocation, which is likely to be held in the second week of February.

A series of events including social activities, cultural functions, academic programs and sporting events have been lined up the occasion.

R P P Singh, KU vice-chancellor said that over 1700 certificates of merit will be distributed at the convocation, wherein students from academics, sports and curricular activities will be felicitated. Gold medals will be awarded to toppers of 2013.

During the convocation, achievements of the university during the last six years in the field of academic, sports and culture will be highlighted through a documentary film.

A university official said that the visiting guests and the students at the convocation will also witness different forms of tribal dance, art and culture of Jharkhand.

Currently, the list of the toppers of 2014 is being prepared, officials said. Along with the achievers, students, who have successfully completed vocational courses, graduates, post graduates and B. Ed. graduates will receive their degree certificates at the convocation. In addition, close to 30 university officials will be felicitated for their exceptional services during the convocation.

Kolhan University runs 25 colleges, including 14 constituent colleges, eight affiliated colleges and two minority colleges. Jamshedpur Woman�s College is the lone autonomous college of the university.

KU organized its students� union elections in all the constituent colleges in 2015 for the first time.
