Jamshedpur, Aug 6: Kerala Public School Kadma celebrated Van Mahotsav Week from July 31st to August 4th, 2023, aiming to instill a sense of personal and social responsibility in students towards the preservation of trees and forests. The event saw active participation from students, parents, and other stakeholders. Notable attendees included Academic Director Lakshmi Sharat, Principal Sharmila Mukherjee, Headmistress Alamelu Ravishankar, and officials from the Koru Foundation.
The focus of the week-long celebration was to create a personal connection between students and the environment through experiential learning, reflection, and creative activities. The program commenced with an Introduction to the Van Mahotsav Week Celebration in School, presented by Eco Club Moderator Seema Prasad, followed by a captivating Rap Song performed by students.
Principal Sharmila Mukherjee emphasized the significance of environmental conservation in her address to the gathering. Garima, Co-Founder of the Koru Foundation, also motivated and guided the students towards effective waste management practices in schools, providing insights into the Foundation’s functioning.
Eco Club Students were recognized and rewarded with badges, encouraging them to take on more responsibilities in environmental initiatives. Kerala Public School Kadma achieved a remarkable milestone by receiving the Climate Clock from the Energy Swaraj Foundation for successfully registering 500 participants for Energy Literacy training.
The Climate Clock was officially launched and installed on the school campus on the second day of Van Mahotsav. Eco Club Moderator Shubha Choubey highlighted the clock’s significance, while students from the Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) explained the clock’s assembly process.
On the third day, the school organized a thought-provoking panel discussion on the topic, “Is it possible to live in a zero-waste society?” allowing for a meaningful exchange of ideas and insights.
The panel discussion began with the auspicious lamp lighting ceremony. School Principal Ms. Sharmila Mukherjee addressed the gathering with her inspiring words. This was followed by a documentary on Environment.

Dr Shweta Sharma, a senior school Physics teacher of KPS Kadma and Mr Kartekeyan , Environmental Engineer , TSLPL,
School Alumnus, Harsh Mukhi who recently passed out as a Bio science student shared their views on the topic. The Moderator for Panel discussion was Veena T, Senior School Coordinator , KPS Kadma.
Token of gratitude along with a sapling was presented to the panelists. A packet of seed balls made by the eco club students were presented to the guest teachers from other schools. Academic Director, Kerala Public School Kadma sensitized students on environment conservation. The program concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Jatinder Kaur Panesar, High School Coordinator.
Through this initiative, Kerala Public School Kadma demonstrated its commitment to environmental awareness and sustainability, inspiring students to be responsible stewards of the planet.
