Jamshedpur, Jan 20: In a significant step towards improving mental healthcare in Kolhan, the region’s first private mental health facility, Healing Minds Psychiatric Hospital and De-addiction Centre, was inaugurated on Sunday at Telco, Birsanagar Zone 1. The hospital, equipped with 12 beds and an outpatient department (OPD), will provide treatment and admission facilities for severe psychiatric cases, eliminating the need for patients to travel to Ranchi.

Dr. Jayanti Simlai, Director of Ranchi Rinpas Hospital, inaugurated the new facility. Addressing the gathering, she highlighted the increasing prevalence of mental health issues across age groups. “The growing number of mentally ill patients is a matter of concern. Around 60% of patients in Jharkhand are unable to access hospital beds due to limited facilities. The opening of this hospital in Kolhan is a major milestone,” she said.

Dr. Simlai further stressed the importance of family therapy in addressing mental health challenges, especially for children struggling with addiction. “Addiction among children is rising at an alarming rate. Parents need to be aware and actively support their children. Family therapy helps strengthen family relationships and fosters understanding and mutual support,” she added.

Civil Surgeon Dr. Sahir Pal announced that a new mental health facility at Sadar Hospital will be operational within two months. “The hospital will be developed in two phases, with temporary admission facilities in the first phase and a permanent ward on the second floor in the second phase,” he explained. This development is expected to benefit over 15 mental patients from the district monthly.

Dr. Mahesh Hembram, Director of Healing Minds Psychiatric Hospital, revealed that the facility is the first private mental hospital in Kolhan and the second in Jharkhand. “Our centre will operate 24/7, providing admission and de-addiction treatment under the supervision of expert doctors and trained medical staff. Patients will receive comprehensive care in a supportive environment,” he said.

Dignitaries present included Traffic DSP Neeraj Pathak, Dr. Pankaj Bodra, Dr. Deepak Giri, Dr. Tapas Murmu and others.
