Jamshedpur: A major initiative to strengthen the academic infrastructure of Kolhan University (KU) is officially underway. The university’s Department of Tribal Research and Languages (TRL) and the Vocational Department are set to receive state-of-the-art facilities following the state government’s approval of a ₹25 crore development project. This funding addresses a long-standing demand for independent, dedicated buildings for these key departments.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Anjila Gupta successfully secured the grant after persistent coordination with the Department of Higher Education. The project is expected to significantly enhance the university’s academic capacity and provide world-class resources for researchers.
The core of the project includes the construction of two separate G+3 (four-story) modern buildings for the TRL and Vocational departments. Additionally, the existing Tribal Museum on campus will undergo a complete transformation. The beautification and modernization of the museum aim to showcase the region’s rich tribal culture, history, and heritage on a global platform. The university administration intends to complete these constructions within one year of breaking ground.
Preparations are currently in full swing for a foundation stone-laying ceremony. The university administration has already inspected the construction sites and initiated clearing operations. It is highly anticipated that the foundation stone will be officially laid by State Minister Deepak Birua on January 26, coinciding with Republic Day.
University officials remain in close contact with the Minister to finalize the event details. Administration members believe these new facilities and the modernized museum will provide a vital boost to research activities, serving as a milestone for the preservation of tribal languages and the professional growth of vocational students.
