Kolhan University to hold students’ union election on November 18

Jamshedpur: Kolhan University is gearing up to conduct the students’ union election. The Kolhan University has started the ball rolling for the second election in colleges and university this year too.

The vice-chancellor, Shukla Mahanty reviewed the students election process in a meeting organised in the Kolhan University in Chaibasa today.

As per the plans the colleges will publish the electoral list on Nov 11 followed by a final electoral roll on Nov 13. The nomination filing date would be on Nov 14. The campaign for college elections will end on November 17 while the election shall take place on Nov 18 followed by counting on the same date.

The elections will be fought in 14 constituent colleges in Kolhan and at the university level. Each college will have a president, vice-president, a secretary, deputy secretary, a joint secretary and a university representative.

The university representatives then will contest for the president and other posts at the university level. Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Jharkhand Chhatra Morcha (JCM) and National Students Union of India (NSUI) are some of the wings of major political parties that would contest the students election.

The constituent college principals have been asked to start preparing voters’ list subsequent to which election dates, structure and mechanism for holding free and fair elections will be announced. The candidates appearing for the college-level election must be an undergraduate and 22 years of age while those contesting at the university-level must be a student of postgraduation and 25 years of age.

The Kolhan University elections will be on November 22 followed by counting and results. The electoral list at the university level will be published on Nov 20.
