Jamshedpur, Oct 16: Kolhan University finds itself unable to make crucial decisions regarding student-related matters as it continues to await approval from Raj Bhawan. Key issues such as student union elections, convocation dates, and the results of the PhD entrance examination have been pending for months. The PhD results have not been published for the last six months, and no convocation date has been set for over a year. Additionally, the university has not held student union elections for six years.
“We are deeply concerned about the lack of progress on these issues. Our demands, especially for the student union elections, have been ignored for years,” said Subodh Mahakud, former secretary of the Kolhan University Student Union.
The university is also without a Vice-Chancellor or Pro Vice-Chancellor, leaving many decisions in limbo. Even routine academic matters, such as the scheduling of generic subject exams that have been delayed for two years, remain unresolved. Multiple protests by the student union and other organizations have brought attention to these delays, but the administration remains unresponsive.
Commenting on the situation, Dr. Rajendra Bharti, Registrar of Kolhan University, expressed regret, stating, “It is unfortunate that these student-related problems are still unresolved. We have written to Raj Bhawan on several occasions, but nothing can move forward until the elections are over. We are bound by the current circumstances.”
Students have also raised concerns about inadequate facilities on campus, including a lack of drinking water and proper sanitation. “We’ve repeatedly highlighted these problems, but no action has been taken,” Mahakud added, stressing that these basic issues, along with unresolved academic concerns, have left the student body frustrated.
For now, all decisions regarding the university’s affairs appear to be on hold, with hopes of resolution only after the elections.
