Kolhan DIG review Jamshedpur’s law and order situation, asks people to surrender illegal firearms

Police to penalise people over objectionable posts on social media

Jamshedpur, May 4: Newly appointed Deputy inspector general (DIG), Kolhan, Rajiv Ranjan Singh on Monday held a meeting of senior police officers to review city’s law and order situation. The DIG scanned criminal cases police station wise, arrest of anti-social elements and also reviewed the naxal activities.

Addressing the media, Singh said that action will be taken against those who post objectionable comments and pictures on social media platforms. He said that the police are keeping a vigil on social media.

�Those indulged in criminal activities in the city refrain from committing crime and lead a peaceful life, otherwise  action will be taken against them , “said Singh.

In his maiden meeting with the senior police officers at the senior SP’s office in Bistupur on Monday. At the meeting senior SP, M Tamil Vanan, city SP, Subhash Chandra Jat and deputy superintendents of police were also present.

The DIG, Kolhan who had his stint as deputy superintendent of police in steel city over a decade ago said that those who are possessing illegal fire-arms may surrender their arms before the police.  He warned the criminals not to take the police for granted.

” I warn criminals not to take the police for granted.  If any of them are caught with fire-arms, then we will take stern action against the person involved.  Arms-checking will be intensified in the next few days and the offenders will have to face jail terms if caught with the fire-arms,” said the senior police officer.

Speaking on maintaining lockdown for preventing the spread of coronavirus, the DIG said that there should be a more coordinated activity between the police and the panchayat officials in rural areas.

 The DIG, Kolhan said the law and order situation in the steel city is absolutely under control and if any shortcomings will be detected they will be taken care of by the senior superintendent of police.

An official said that social media will be under scanner due to recent spreading of rumours via various social media platforms on the occasion of Eid.

 He said that in the recent past several incidents took place in the city due to rumours spreading on networking sites. This time the police will ensure that such messages are put under scanner and those found guilty are taken into task. A strict vigil will be kept on such sites. He also released an appeal to the citizens requesting them not give air to any such rumours.

At the meeting, the DIG talked to the deputy superintendents of police and asked them to give an account of crime scenario in their concerned police stations area.  The senior police officer also later talked to the senior superintendent of police and superintendent of police and gave necessary directive to ensure the ensuing festivals pass off peacefully.

“A number of firing incidents has taken place at few localities in the city in the recent past, but the police have also been succeeded to nab those involved in such incidents. The overall law and order situation in the city is not as bad,” said the DIG.
