Kerala Samajam Boys, Jusco girls sneak ahead in RFYS Football

Jamshedpur: Kerala Samajam Model School (KSMS) got the better of Baridih High School in a tiebreaker after their closely fought Junior Boys qualifier match of the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports football tournament ended in a 1-1 draw here on Wednesday.

In School Girls category, Jusco School (South Park) edges out Andhra Association English School 1-0.

The first match at the Armoury Ground saw KSMS and Baridih boys fighting for every inch of the turf, ball possession and passing. Derrick Peter Gilbanks put KSMS ahead by scoring in the 29th minute.

It did not deter the Baridih boys, who kept attacking and eventually their efforts bore fruits in the second session when Suraj Kumar Dubey got the much-needed equaliser in the 40thminute.

That was it as both teams failed to find the net until end of the stipulated playing time. In the ensuing penalty shootout, goal-scorer Suraj Dubey turned villain by missing his penalty kick, the first shot at goal for Baridih.

Suraj Tudu, however, put KSMS ahead by while player of the match Manik Mahato stepped up for Baridih to make it 2-2. Derrick Gilbanks scored to give KSMS a 3-2 lead but Manjeet Jamuda missed for Baridih. Jagjit Singh Sangotra also missed his chance to convert for KSMS but Ishant Rao scored for Baridih to make it 3-3 again. As Bairidih boy Karan Tudu missed his chance, Anshuman Marandi scored to seal the match 4-3 in favour of KSMS.

Annu Sharma scored the solitary goal in the 33rdminute for Jusco, which eventually proved decisive, against Andhra Association in the School Girls qualifier at the same venue. Annu was later declared player of the match.

Results (qualifiers)- Junior boys: Kerala Samajam Model School bt Baridih High School 4(1)-3(1). School girls: Jusco School South Park, Kadma bt Andhra Association English High School 1-0.
