Jamshedpur, Oct. 13: The Durga Puja pandal of Thakur Pyara Singh Dhurandhar Singh Club at Kasidih has turned out to be the best performer in the race to win the title of best puja pandal on the scale of cleanliness.
The second and third positions have been grabbed by the puja pandals of Agrico and Baridih Market respectively. The fourth and fifth positions are taken by the Burmamines Puja Committee and the Harijan School, Bhalubasa, respectively.
This was revealed by sources in the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC). A team of four members of JNAC had conducted inspection of a total of 36 puja pandals across the city with the view to rank them on a cleanliness benchmark based on eight evaluation criteria. The puja committees will be felicitated on the basis of their performance on 15th October by the district administration.
JNAC officials said the evaluation was done based on the performance of the puja committees in terms of disposal of waste after segregation, handing over hazardous waste to civic bodies, making arrangements for dustbins at pandals, putting up hoardings bearing messages to public on cleanliness, using bags made of paper, jute or other eco-friendly materials, making arrangements for drying of waste material and immersing idols at places earmarked for the purpose by the district administration.
District administration had announced to evaluate the puja pandals for cleanliness in a bid to encourage cleanliness all over the city.
