Karim City College wins Inter-College Chess Tournament at Jamshedpur Workers’ College

Jamshedpur, Sept 24: Workers’ College hosted the Inter-College Chess Competition 2025-26 under the aegis of Kolhan University, Chaibasa, on September 24. The event brought together top chess players from affiliated colleges, creating an intense and competitive atmosphere.

The competition was inaugurated by Principal Dr. S.P. Mahalik, who reaffirmed his commitment to promoting sports at the college level. Chief guests included Dr. Hasan Imam Malik, Chief Coach of Tata Handball Training Centre and Dr. Amar Singh, Principal of Jamshedpur Cooperative College. Other dignitaries were Dr. Mohammad Firoz Ibrahim (Karim City College Sports Incharge), Dr. Ranvijay Prasad Singh (Cooperative College) and Dr. Jayant Kumar Bhuiyan of Tata Chess Academy, who served as chief judge.

 

The tournament was coordinated by Dr. Suman Kumari, Sports In-charge of Workers’ College, with support from Dr. Anil Chandra Pathak, Prof. Arvind Kumar Sahu, Subhash Chandra Das, Kumari Priyanka and Dr. Alok Kumar Choubey. The closing ceremony was graced by Dr. Manmath Narayan Singh, Sports In-charge of Kolhan University, while stage proceedings were managed by Dr. Surabhi Sinha.

In individual results, Abhishek Kumar and Akash Kumar Mahapatra of Karim City College (KCC) secured the first and second positions respectively. In team results, Karim City College emerged as the overall winner, with Jamshedpur Workers’ College finishing second.
