Jamshedpur: The History Department of Karim City College organized an educational visit to the Coin Museum on Wednesday, offering students a rare opportunity to delve into India’s rich numismatic heritage. The visit, led by Dr. Kausar Tasneem and Dr. Mohammad Shahnawaz, saw active participation from 42 students across semesters 1, 2, and 4, making it a valuable hands-on learning experience.
The museum housed an extensive collection of coins spanning from the ancient Indian era to the modern age, including rare medals and memorabilia from Tata Steel. Students explored the exhibits with great enthusiasm, gaining insight into the minting techniques, trade practices, and economic evolution of different historical periods.
While the visit was largely self-exploratory, museum curators actively engaged with students, providing valuable insights into the significance of various coins. Discussions centered on the role of numismatics in historical research, emphasizing how coins serve as crucial historical sources beyond their monetary value.
The visit facilitated interactive discussions between students and faculty members, fostering a deeper appreciation for numismatics. Students analyzed different coin specimens, linking them to historical events, rulers, and economic transitions. This edutainment-based approach ensured that learning was both engaging and informative. Following the visit, students are required to submit detailed reports documenting their key learnings, observations, and analytical reflections.
