Jamshedpur, Dec 12: Under the aegis of Department of Mass Communication Karim City College and Spic Macay, New Delhi, Rajasthani folk artistes performed today at the auditorium of Karim City College. It may be known that this is the 25th year of the Mass Communication Department, under which the institute is conducting innovative programmes throughout the year. Spic Macay is an organisation started by IIT Professor Dr. Kiran Seth, in which efforts are being made to connect the new generation with Indian art, culture and music for the last five decades.
Bagur Khan and his group who came from Rajasthan presented Rajasthani folk songs but also recited Sufi Qawwali. The two dancers who accompanied him also performed one Bhawai dance and Kalbelia dance.

It is noteworthy that under the new Education Policy, understanding of Indian cultural heritage has been included under the letter Understanding India. It was a unique experience for the college students where they could hear the artists playing and singing live. These artists also introduced the students to the almost extinct musical instruments. Ranging from ‘Kesariya Balam Aao Ji Mare Desh’ to ‘Mimuda Mimuda’ and finally Dama Dum Mast Kalandar, the artists concluded the performance. College Principal Dr. Mohammad Riaz was present on this occasion. Dr. Neha Tiwari, Head of the Department of Mass Communication, introduced the artists. Bharti Banerjee, regional coordinator of Spic Macay, thanked the college for this initiative. On this occasion, the auditorium of the college was packed with students, as well as all the professors of the college also enjoyed the performance of this music. Syed Sajid, Syed Shahzeb, Dr. Rashmi and Taseer Shahid played an important role in making the programme successful.
