Jamshedpur: The Hindi Department of Karim City College, Sakchi, organized an insightful guest lecture titled “Kabir’s Social and Spiritual Consciousness” on Saturday. The session explored how the teachings of the 15th-century mystic poet, Kabir Das, remain profoundly relevant in today’s world.
Dr. Gurcharan Singh, former Principal of S.P. Jain College, Sasaram (Bihar), delivered the keynote address. During his lecture, he highlighted Kabir’s progressive vision and emphasized the importance of Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb—the unique composite culture and tradition of harmony that defines India.
Dr. Subhash Chandra Gupta, Head of the Hindi Department, chaired the program. Dr. Sandhya Sinha welcomed the guests and introduced the theme, while Dr. Anupama Mishra, Head of the Odia Department, provided a detailed elaboration on Kabir’s literary impact. Dr. Kausar Tasneem, Head of the History Department, also shared historical perspectives on Kabir’s social contributions.
The event featured an interactive session where students engaged deeply with the speaker, asking questions about Kabir’s philosophy and his critique of social orthodoxies. Dr. Sandhya Sinha anchored the proceedings, and Dr. Firoz Alam concluded the event with a vote of thanks, praising the academic initiative for fostering critical thought among students.
