Jamshedpur:The NSS Unit of Karim City College (KCC), Jamshedpur, celebrated Van Mahotsav Week with a series of impactful activities aimed at promoting environmental awareness and encouraging green initiatives among students.
The week-long celebration commenced with a formal inauguration ceremony in the college campus. Principal Dr. Mohammad Riyaz inaugurated the event by planting a sapling, symbolizing the beginning of the environmental campaign. He was joined by Dr. B.N. Tripathi (Head, Examination Department), Dr. Azghar Khan (Physics Department), Syed Sajid Parvez (NSS Coordinator), Dr. Ale Ali (NSS Program Officer), and other faculty members.
Following the inauguration, a Sankalp Ceremony was held where all participants took an oath to protect the environment. The pledge emphasized commitments such as planting and nurturing trees, conserving water, minimizing plastic use, and spreading environmental awareness thereby reinforcing the belief that everyone could play a role in safeguarding nature.
In the second phase of the celebration, a Nature Photography Competition was organized under the guidance of Syed Sajid Parvez. Students showcased their creativity by capturing the beauty of nature and expressing their environmental consciousness through their photographs.
The college also launched the “Har Ghar Paudha Lagao” campaign, encouraging students to plant saplings at home and share their photographs, thereby fostering a sense of personal responsibility towards environmental conservation.
The week concluded with an insightful online webinar and lecture series featuring key speakers including Dr. Inayat Bano and Dr. Farzana Anjum (Department of Geography), Principal Dr. Mohammad Riyaz, and Dr. Ale Ali.
Dr. Inayat Bano inspired students to become proactive and responsible citizens, emphasizing that environmental protection was a collective duty. Dr. Farzana Anjum shed light on climate change, biodiversity, and environmental imbalance, stressing the significance of individual actions in tackling these challenges.
Principal Dr. Riyaz highlighted the institution’s commitment to instilling not only academic excellence but also social and environmental responsibility in students.
Program Coordinator Dr. Ale Ali conducted the webinar and provided an overview of the week’s activities. He praised the dedication of NSS volunteers, describing them as the future “environmental warriors.”
The webinar saw active participation from scholars and students of Rambha College of Education (Hata), Jamia MilliaIs lamia (Delhi), Kolhan University, and the Geography Department of Karim City College. Enthusiastic student interaction and thought-provoking questions enriched the session.
The Van Mahotsav Week at Karim City College concluded on a hopeful note inspiring young minds to become custodians of nature through consistent and conscious efforts. (w/gsd)
