Karhad Kocha Sabar families in throes of water crisis

Mail News Service

Jadugoda: Karhad Kocha in Narda Panchayat of Potka Block is a hamlet of the near extinct Sabars of the Adivasi tribe. They are in the throes of water crisis as a result of which they have to fetch potable water from Tulgram that is 1.5 kilometers away from their village.

The tragedy in this hamlet of 15 Sabar families is that under the 14th Finance Commission, a solar powered water supply system was planned and a water tank to the effect was constructed. The whole exercise is lying idle since the last three months.

Raman Murmu, a social worker serving in the Karhad Kocha village lamented, The Sabars have been facing tough times even in the realms of provisions for basic amenities. They have to fetch water from Tulgram which is 1.5 kilometers away. They are deprived of old age pension provisions, ration cards and the Prime Ministers Awas Yojna project facilities. I have demanded of the government and the peoples representatives to ensure quick panacea for the water crisis at least.
