Jamshedpur : The much awaited Kadma-Sonari stretch of the marine drive linking Adityapur toll-bridge with Mango will get operational after completion of the project.
Tata Steel has decided to clear encroachment along a stretch of the under-construction marine drive. The encroachment hurdle has been resolved after those who had set up houses on the company’s land along the under-constructed marine drive have agreed upon to vacate the land. The company has been able to impress upon the people to remove their encroachment.
Sources said that those settled at Rupnagar in Kadma in an unauthorised manner will be provided with a small plot of land for building their houses.
” We are confident that once the encroached portion of the land is vacant, we will start the construction work speedily. In the event of the marine drive work is completed, the quality of work will be far better said an official.
The enchroachment is likely to be removed in a week’s time, and once it is done they would work on war-footing and complete the work as early as possible.
The management of the steel major had last month declared that the vehicular communication through the marine drive will start from July 15 through one side of the under-constructed marine drive.
Notably, the nine-kilometres-long marine drive is being set up to keep the steel city free from the movement of heavy vehicles from inside the city. The Rs 120 crores worth project which comes under the Tata Steel’s Wester Corridor Project was started in June 2012 and was scheduled to be end by June 2014. But due to the encroachment hurdle along Kadma side, the work was suspended at the side where there was encroachment.
It may be mentioned that in view of the expansion plans of Tata Steel and other Tata Group companies in Jamshedpur, Tata Steel Limited had engaged reputed Consultant M/s L & T Rambole and M/s Consulting Engineering Services of Delhi to do a transport study of Jamshedpur.
The study recommended construction of two corridors, the Eastern Corridor and the Western Corridor along with bridges on river Subernarekha and river Kharkai.
To decongest the city roads further, it recommended increasing the width of the city roads, strengthening the sub-grade of roads, building new roads and parking areas in major markets such as Bistupur, Kadma and Sakchi.
