Jamshedpur: Jharkhand Vikas Morcha(JVM) activists today took to the streets in favour of their demand for the construction of flyovers in the city in order to prevent fatal road accidents under the pre-planned Mahadharna programme.
The party members led by central secretary of the outfit Abhay Singh gathered at Jain Bhavan, Sakchi, and marched to the office of the deputy commissioner (DC) of East Singhbhum Dr Amitabh Kaushal for the Mahadharna with flags and banners in their hands.
Raising slogans against the administration for delaying the construction of flyovers in the city, Abhay Singh said the city streets were not safe due to the plying of a large number of heavy vehicles day and night. He said the construction of flyovers at various places could not only prevent fatal road accidents in the city but could also reduce the load on city traffic a great deal.
The city has witnessed the loss of more than 900 people in road accidents caused by trucks, trailors and other heavy vehicles plying in the city. This is the figure as per police records. The actual data may be even more. Besides non-fatal accidents are numerous. Many of them are not even reported. This reveals a horrendous picture of the city traffic scenario. If the administration does not intervene now, the situation will become even worse, said Singh.
The JVM leader said the city roads failed to keep up pace with the expansion of companies in and around the city. As a result, the city now badly needs flyovers to reduce the load of vehicles on roads. This would deviate the flow of heavy vehicles away from the city and prevent road accidents to a great extent, he said.
