Jamshedpur, June 3: Following an MoU with Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) and state drinking water and sanitation department for transfer, operation and maintenance jobs of the multi-crore Moharda drinking water in February this year, Jusco took over operation of the project.
Senior deputy general manager (water management and town engineering) R. K Singh said that they would upgrade the infrastructure and improve quality of water in the next few months. The project supplies water to Birsanagar, Bagunhatu and Baridih areas.
A team of East Singhbhum district administration recently also inspected the Rs 28 crore Moharda drinking water project that has got delayed for nearly six years.
The foundation stone of the water project of the project was laid by former chief minister Arjun Munda and then state urban development minister Raghubar Das in September 2006. It was scheduled to be complete in 2008. The project is expected to provide piped drinking water to around 1.5 lakhs populace residing in Bagunhatu, Bagunnagar, Baridih,Birsanagar, Moharda and Hurlung.
Incidentally, the Rs 28-crore Moharda drinking water project, the pet project of the Chief Minister, is yet be fully operational. After the agreement, Jusco will be supplying water using the infrastructure at the Moharda drinking water project.
“ We are making steady progress on every front and soon Tata Steel subsidiary Jusco will clear the project. However, for either electricity or water the people of urban slums should be ready to pay their bills to enjoy better facilities,” said an official.
The water project had these elements of construction — a weir, seven towers, a filtration plant and an intake well. It was to supply 5.5 million litre gallons per day. However, delay in sanction of funds, wrong selection of contractor and technical glitches led to delay in the project.
