Jamshedpur : Jharkhand State Electricity Regulatory Commission has revised the electricity tariff of Tata Steel licensee for the city of Jamshedpur.
New tariff will become effective from 1st June 2015.
Revised tariff has been arrived to recover the cost of electricity primarily on account of increase in the Power Purchase Costs.
Tata Steel Purchases its power from Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) and Tata Power and distributes in the city of Jamshedpur.
Over the year, cost of power purchase from DVC and Tata Power has increased significantly, which has resulted in revenue gap of Tata Steel licensee due to continued lower tariff in the previous years.
Power quality and reliability in Jamshedpur has always been amongst one of the best in the country. With rising cost of purchase power and other related costs, tariff adjustments are necessary to keep the operations ongoing and ensure appropriate service levels.
The tariff increase for retail domestic consumers has been lower as compared to other categories so that common citizens are not over burdened.
Even with the increased tariff, the domestic tariffs are still lower than most other comparable cities in the country.
The effect of the increase on a typical domestic consumer who consumes approximately 200 units in a month would be about Rs. 50 per month extra.
