Jamshedpur: Serious lapses in waste management by the Jugsalai Municipal Council have sparked widespread anger among residents, as the town grapples with growing piles of untreated garbage and deteriorating sanitary conditions.
Instead of ensuring proper disposal, the civic body has allegedly been dumping collected waste at the designated dumping yard without effective processing, resulting in a massive accumulation of garbage.
The worsening situation has led to foul odour, unhygienic surroundings, and rising health concerns among thousands of residents living nearby, who fear the outbreak of diseases if urgent action is not taken.
Locals said the problem has persisted for a long time, with no permanent solution in sight. A waste-processing machine installed at the site at a cost of several lakhs reportedly remains non-functional, further aggravating the crisis.
Residents also alleged that sanitation workers often dump waste on roadsides, creating severe inconvenience for commuters and devotees, particularly near Mahakaleshwar Ghat, where movement has become increasingly difficult.
With the Swachh Survekshan approaching, the deteriorating cleanliness standards have also raised concerns over Jugsalai’s civic ranking. Citizens have urged the administration to take immediate and concrete measures to restore an efficient waste management system and prevent the situation from escalating further.
