Jamshedpur, May 15: Jharkhand State Cricket Association on Saturday congratulated state senior women cricketer Indrani Roy the wicketkeeper-batter – who broke into the India squad for the tour of England.
Indrani represents Bokaro district and has been part of the Jharkhand team since 2017.
She was part of the India B in 2017 and India C team in 2018 in the Challenger Trophy and was the runner up.
The 23-year-old, who hails from Liluah in West Bengal’s Howrah district, moved to Jharkhand a few years ago and has been a regular member of the State team. That’s how she came in contact with Dhoni and ahead of her maiden tour with the Indian team, Indrani wants to make the most of ‘Mahi Sir’s’ suggestions.
Indrani’s outstanding performance in the Seema Desia Memorial Trophy held at Jamshedpur in February and JSCA T20 Women’s Cricket Tournament played in Ranchi in March opened doors to the national side.
Indrani was the leading run-scorer in the Senior One Day Trophy 2020-21 organised by BCCI in Surat and Rajkot, with a tally of 456 runs including two centuries.
Former JSCA President Amitabh Choudhary said, it’s a proud moment for Jharkhand and selection of Indrani will instill confidence among other women cricketers of the state. Congratulating Indrani, Choudhary wished her luck for future.

When she was in school, her parents were initially against her playing cricket, but with the help of her coach Panchu Gopal Majhi, she managed to pursue her dreams. She still does not have a passport, but as Indrani gets ready for her first overseas tour, she hopes to make the most of the English summer.
The BCCI on Friday announced the Indian women’s squad for the upcoming tour of England which is comprised of a one-off Test match, 3 ODIs and as many T20Is. Veteran Indian batswoman Mithali Raj will lead the side in the Test and ODIs with Harmanpreet Kaur as her deputy.
