Joydeep Sunani and Laxmi Kumari emerge best boxers at inter-centre championship in Jamshedpur

 

Jamshedpur, September 29: Jamshedpur Unit of Tata Steel Foundation (Urban Services) organised an Inter-centre Boxing Championship for Sub-Junior and Junior (Boys & Girls) cadets at the Baridih Centre, on September 26 and 28.

The event brought together 130 talented young boxers from 12 different centres of Urban Services to compete in a thrilling and high-energy competition that showcased the skills and determination of the participants.

The championship was inaugurated by R K Verma, Treasurer of the Jharkhand Boxing Association on September 26. He motivated the young athletes with an inspiring speech. He emphasised the importance of discipline, perseverance, and sportsmanship in shaping not just athletes but responsible individuals. The first day saw intense matches as the young boxers competed in various categories, cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd.

 

On the final day, September 28, was graced by the esteemed presence of the Chief Guests,  Uttam Singh, Vice President, Tata Steel, Meramandali and President, Jharkhand Boxing Association and Anand Bihary Dubey, Secretary, Jharkhand Boxing Association. Their encouraging words highlighted Tata Steel’s commitment to nurturing young talent and supporting the development of sports in the region. Both dignitaries took the time to interact with the participants, expressing admiration for their dedication and hard work.

Winners:

Best Boxer (Junior Boys Category): Joydeep Sunani

Best Boxer (Junior Girls Category): Laxmi Kumari, Namda

Best Promising Boxer (Cadet Boys): Nikhil Kumar, Namda

Best Promising Boxer (Cadet Girls): Radhika Kumari, Kasidih

Urban Services also felicitated Manisha Kerketta of Jharkhand, who won the silver medal in the IBA Junior World Boxing Championship.
