The Jamshedpur Northern Area Committee (JNAC) is set to redefine the city’s urban landscape by launching five major development projects this month. Funded through the 15th Finance Commission, these initiatives—totaling ₹4.16 Crore—aim to resolve chronic traffic congestion, improve drainage, and enhance green cover.
According to JNAC Deputy Municipal Commissioner Krishna Kumar, these projects focus on modernizing basic infrastructure and smoothing traffic flow, particularly in densely populated and commercial areas.

Monsoonal Preparedness: Cleaning of 56 Major Drains
In anticipation of the upcoming monsoon, JNAC has launched an aggressive desilting campaign.
- Scope: 56 major drains across Jamshedpur will be cleaned.
- Workforce: 70 sanitation workers have been deployed.
- Distribution: The cleaning is divided into two zones—40 workers for the Eastern zone and 30 for the Western zone.
- Timeline: The goal is to complete the desilting before the heavy rains begin to ensure residents do not face waterlogging issues in their homes and neighborhoods.
Connecting Slums to Main Roads
A significant portion of this month’s budget is dedicated to the Shastri Nagar area. By connecting the internal lanes of various “bastis” (settlements) to the main Marine Drive using high-quality paver blocks and modern construction techniques, JNAC aims to provide better accessibility for residents and a cleaner look for the locality.
