Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) officials and staff went on an undeclared strike on Wednesday to protest yesterday’s incident at Sakchi involving assault on JNAC’s City Manager Ranjan Pandey.
The main gate of the JNAC office was locked throughout the day.
The JNAC staff expressed agitation over the incident of assault on Pandey when he was removing encroachment near Kalimati Road at Sakchi.
They said the encroachers and their goons had stopped Pandey and other staff of the municipal body from carrying out the anti-encroachment drive.
They alleged that Pandey was not only abused but was also assaulted by the hooligans in broad daylight before hundreds of people.
They said such a situation was not acceptable since the anti-encroachment work was adversely affected due to interference of anti-social elements.
Pandey had lodged an FIR against several persons in connection with yesterday’s violence. The role of Gurdev Singh Raja, vice chairman of the State Minority Commission, came under scanner as his supporters allegedly gave rise to violence during the anti-encroachment drive launched by the JNAC.
