JNAC to spend Rs 7 crore to revamp civic facilities

Jamshedpur : The Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) is gearing up to hold tender process for over 100 projects worth over Rs 7 crore to revamp civic facilities in the city.

JNAC special officer Deepak Sahay said construction road, drains, culverts and setting up of street lights would be part of the plan.

Sahay said that the areas which are going to be covered under the fresh development projects includes Birsanagar, Jemco, Kadma, Bagunhatu and Baridih.

Notably, in a large number of urban areas which come under the JNAC’s jurisdiction do not have the civic facilities like concrete roads, drainage and street-lights .

“We need to understand that mosquitoes that carry the virus of dengue do not come from outside, rather they generate from the household things like flower-pots, coolers water, rejected tyre kept on the roof top or in the corner of the garden.

So we must ensure that there is no such place where water is stagnant for sometime,” said an official.

Earlier, the JNAC had four sanitary inspectors supervising work of staffs engaged in cleaning garbage and solid wastes in their command areas demarcated in six zones.

“Due to absence of the drainage system, water-logging is a common problem in pockets which give rise to the germination of mosquitos.

But after the present round of development work get through, the water-logging on roads and drain will be a matter of past,” said the senior civic body officer.

Notably, the funding for development in the notified area comes either from the state urban development department or from the legislator’s fund.

Sources in the JNAC revealed that the amount over Rs 7 crores that is going to be spent on the augmentation of civic amenities was sanctioned by the state urban development department.

The JNAC is entrusted with upkeep of the civic amenities in urban slums outside Tata Steel command area for a populace of over 5 lakhs.
